On September 16th, the 13th Batumi International Film Festival started in Batumi, offering the audience multiple film screenings and master classes for 8 days.

Besides the competition programme, the festival has several noncompetition sections, including "The Masters' Collection" where Cannes and other prestigious festivals award winning films are presented. Among them, there are the films of the filmmakers very well-known and awaited by Georgian audience.

On September 17th, the audience saw "Human, Space, Time and Human" - a new film of Ki-duk Kim. The 2018 film by Korean filmmaker tells the story of people of different age and origin, sailing on a warship. .

Yesterday, the screening of "Climax" by Gaspar Noé was held in cinema "Apollo". This year, the film had quite good feedback at Cannes and it even became the center theme of film critics reviews. The film tells the story of the 90s, when 20 dancers settled in the woodhouse for the rehearsals. The last day, they decide to make a party and get drunk with Sangria. "I've always been fascinated by the situations where chaos and anarchy suddenly spread, whether street brawls, psychotropically enhanced shamanistic sessions, or parties at which the revelers lose control collectively under the influence of excessive alcohol. My greatest pleasures lies in having prepared nothing in advance, allowing situations to happen in front of me, as in a documentary." - says Noé in one of his interviews.

Today, at 22:00, the same section will screen, "The House That Jack Built" by Lars von Trier. This psychology thriller tells the story of the serial killer, starring Matt Dillon, Uma Thurman and Riley Keough. In one of his interviews with "The Guardian", Lars von Trier noticed that the film is inspired by Donald Trump.

Batumi Film Festival closing ceremony will be held on September 23rd, at 18:30 Batumi State Musical Center, where the jury will announce the winners. Gela Kandelaki (filmmaker, animator) will be awarded a prize of honor for the special contribution to the cinema. The evening will be accompanied by the Batumi Jazz Big-Band.
