24th of November "Rooms Hotel Tbilisi" will welcome press-conference covering The 17th International Film Festival.
17th Tbilisi International Film Festival will open in “Amirani’’ Cinema on Monday at 7 pm, November 28 with “Rosa Luxemburg’’ by famous German film director Margarethe von Trotta. The film is about the life of political activist, philosopher and theoretic Rosa Luxemburg. The film has received the 1986 German Film Award for Best Feature Film (Bester Spielfilm), and Barbara Sukowa won the Cannes Film Festival's Best Actress Award and the German Film Award for Best Actress for her performance as Rosa Luxemburg.
The main theme of the 17th TIFF is politics. The special section ‘’Bios Politikos’’ uniting 10 films from around the world, both, feature and documentary shows global and local tensions, daily life of the politics, relationship with different nonpolitical areas, its complexity and other important problems
The most important part of festival is the international competition with 10 debut or second feature-length movies of the European directors. Traditionally, the best motion picture will get the golden "Prometheus", while the best direction will get the silver "Prometheus".
The winner of the International Competition will be selected by the jury. This year the chairperson of the jury is a Canadian actress Alexandra Stewart who has had a long and successful international career working in film and television, especially in France. German Producer Peter Rommel, Italian Film Director, Script Writer and Writer Davide Ferrario, Swedish Film Critic Eva af Geijerstam and Georgian Film Producer Gia Bazgadze are the members of this year’s international jury.
The traditional section "Georgian Panorama" is presented by Pasha Bank. The particular section will cover the most interesting Georgian long, short and documentary films of the last year. The aim of the program is to promote Georgian cinematographers, help them introduce their works to a larger audience. German Film Critics Ulrich and Erika Gregor, and French-based US Film Critics Lisa Nesselson and Glenn Myrent are the members of the national jury.
At the 17th TIFF will close in “Amirani” Cinema on December 3at 7 pm with the late Iranian Director Abbas Kiarostami’s last short documentary “Take Me Home”.
The Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia, Tbilisi City Hall and Georgian National Centre of Cinematography are the supporters of the TIFF. The festival’s general sponsor is Adjaranet. Pasha Bank presents Georgian Panorama. Open Society Georgia Foundation supports Bios Politikos. Rooms Hotel Tbilisi is the official host of the festival.
