The special guest of 17th International Film Festival Margarethe von Trotta is already in Tbilisi. This year the festival’s Honorary Prometheus will be given to the famous German Film Director, while her film Rosa Luxemburg will officially open the festival today, November 28, 7 pm at Amirani Cinema.
As always, the festival offers rich program of films to its loyal audience, film professionals and foreign guests.
Who will receive the festival’s traditional Golden and Silver Prometheus will become known on December 3. Films in International competition will be evaluated by jury composed of five members. The Head of the Jury International Competition is Alexandra Stewart, French actress; other jury members are: Davide Ferrario – Film Director from Italy; Peter Rommel – Producer from Germany; Eva Af Geijerstam – Film Expert from Sweden and Gia Bazghadze – Film producer from Georgia.
Few years ago the festival laid the foundation for the national competition. This year “Prometheus” will be awarded in three categories: The best full feature Georgian film, the best documentary and the best short film. Sponsor of the national competition is still “Pasha Bank”.
As for the jury, together with German film experts Erika and Ulrich Gregor, Georgian films will be evaluated by American film experts Lisa Nesselson and Glenn Myrent.
2016 is the year of politics, politicians and elections. This is why the festival’s main topic this year is exactly politics. The part of the program called “Bios Politikos” is presented by Open Society Georgia Foundation.
Minister of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia Mikheil Giorgadze will deliver an opening speech.
Ministry of Culture, Tbilisi city Hall and Georgian National Film Center are the main sponsors of the festival. General Sponsor is Adjaranet. Georgian Panorama is presented by Pasha Bank.
