The 17th Tbilisi International Film Festival has come to its end. The names of those who will become the owners of the main prizes – Golden and Silver Prometheus will become known exactly tonight on December 3, at 7 pm at Amirani Cinema.
Annually, new films of European directors compete in the International Competition. The competition aims at introducing new faces and film tendencies to the audience.
The films form the International Competition are estimated by five-member jury. French actress Alexandra Stewart is the Head of Jury, while other jury members are Italian Film Director Davide Ferrario, German Film Producer Peter Rommel, Swedish Film Critic Eva af Geijerstam and Georgian Film Producer Gia Bazgadze.
The winners of the National Competition will also be revealed tonight. Traditionally, German Film Critics Ulrich and Erika Gregor’s are the heads of jury, while other mebers are Paris-based Film Historians Lisa Nesselson and Glenn Myrent.
Georgian Panorama is the traditional section uniting last year’s most significant Georgian films. The program aims at supporting promotion of Georgian films among the wide audience.
2016 was the year of politics, politicians and elections. Thus the main topic of the festival is politics. Famous German Film Director Margarethe von Trotta was the special guest of the festival, while Poland is the country in focus.
The official part of 17th Tbilisi International Film Festival will be closed with Iranian Ababs Kiarostami’s last short film “Take Me Home”.
With his camera Kiarostammi takes us to the south of Italy giving beautiful and playful video of alleys and stairs.
Receiving his first international award for “The Experience” in 1973 the Iranian Film Director has received 76 international awards through his film career before dying at the age of 76 in 2016.
Traditionally, Ministry of Culture, Tbilisi city Hall and Georgian National Film Center are the main sponsors of the festival. General Sponsor is Adjaranet.
