54th Karlovy Vary International film festival was closed. This year's festival was attended by 12 521 accredited visitors including 395 filmmakers, 1158 film professionals and 605 journalists. 139 271 tichets were sold and 501 screenings were held in 9 days.

One of the leading festivals of Eastern Europe was opened on June 28. During the opening of the festival, its president Jiří Bartoška delivered a speech and thanked everyone who took part in creating the festival. At the opening ceremony, an actress Julianne Moore was awarded Crystal Globe for outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema. „I´m delighted to be able to be here with my daughter, - mentioned an actress on the opening, - I always told my children that they should follow their interests. I had the luck that film not only brought me to my career but also to my second half."

The festival presented Julianne Moor's husband, Bart Freundlich's After the Wedding where Julianne Moor plays one of the leading roles. First time of these two artists working together was on the debut film of Freundlich - The Myth of Fingerprints (1997). After that, the actress used to appear in his films regularly.

Three years ago, when Casey Affleck got the Oscar, he visited Karlovy Vary as an actor. This year, his film about father and daughter Light of My Life was screened. At first, script was intended to be about the relationship between father and son but, as he said before the screening, he followed the eager demand of his sons, not to make a film about them so he developed a film around the relationship of father and daughter. The film describes an anti-utopia world where almost all the women died of an unknown disease; and right there a man goes in a great journey with his 11 year-old girl to save her life.

After 38 days of filming, Oscar-nominated Polish director Agnieszka Holland presented Charlatan - a film which's supposed to be premiered on February 20, 2020.

The film was shot in Czech Republic and it is based on the true story. The film describes 40 year life of the healer Jan Mikolasek who's never got Medical education but he used to cure number of diseased. "From the moment I read the script I thought the story was quite strong. And then the character begins to take form within me, I try to grasp it" - mentioned the director in the interview with Variety.

Main competition programme included 12 films, 10 of which were world premiered at this festival. This year, at the festival were held the screenings of Dead don't Die by Jim Jarmusch premiered at Cannes, Jonah Hill's Mid 90s, screened at Berlinale, Our Time by Carlos Reygadas, Bong Joon-ho's Parasite, Agnès Varda's Varda by Agnès, Yesterday by Danny Boyle.

Bulgarian drama told with comic situations, The Father becomes the winner of the main competition programme and the 54th Karlovy Vary Film Festival. The film tells the story of middle-aged man Vasil who loses his long-time partner in life and a friend, his wife Ivanka. At her funeral, a woman claims that dead woman called her cellphone so in order to contact his wife, Vasil starts seeing a well-known psychic. Directors of Film are Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov. Their latest works The Lesson (2014) and Glory (2016) have got Crystal Globe.

Speciac Jury Prize was awarded to German drama Lara, whose actress Corinna Harfouch got another award for the best actress.

East of The West Section winner became Boris Akopov for the debut film The Bull and East of the West Special Jury Prize was awarded to Ukrainian film by Antonio Lukich - My Thoughts are Silent.
