Heather Stewart

Born and educated in Scotland, with post-graduate study of film at NYU, Heather has had a career in teaching film and in curating film for a wide range of audiences in the UK and internationally, working in Italy, Holland, Nigeria, and the USA. As Creative Director of the ჩ, she is responsible for the BFI National Archive, one of the biggest and most significant collections of film and television and the moving image in the world, the BFI's London Film Festival and Flare - one of the oldest LGBTQ+ festivals in the world - and the programmes at BFI Southbank cinemas, on DVD and the BFI's own VoD platform, and for distributing films in the UK and touring programmes internationally: believing that we can transform ourselves and the way we see the world through the diversity of film. In her portfolio she also has research and the BFI Reuben Library, and is responsible for Sight & Sound, international film magazine. She has been on many film juries over the years.
